After two proposals were not approved in the Senate, from 12:01 of October 1, the government of President Donald Trump closes, maintaining only essential services.
With the closure, the Government enters a kind of basic function, according to the Antideficit Law and related standards, since the agencies cannot spend funds that have not been approved, so non -essential operations are suspended.
All government offices not considered essential close, such as national parks, museums and other public services, including migratory services.
The essential programs, such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and the interests of the debt will continue.
The postal service could work, since it has self -financing, but there are other agencies will operate with limited services, such as air traffic control, TSA safety controls, border security and certain public security functions.
According to the Congress Budget Office (CBO), a non -partisan entity affects about 750,000 federal employees, but also Americans in general, who will not receive all federal government services.
“The total daily cost of your salaries would amount to about $ 400 million,” said the CBO.
They warn affectations
The president of Bold Pac, the electoral arm of the Hispanic Caucus of Congress (CHC), Linda Sánchez (CA-38), lamented the closure and affectations of Latin families.
“The Republicans control the camera, the Senate and the White House, and instead of doing their job, they fled from the city and paralyzed Washington to sell the health services of the Americans in exchange for gifts for billionaires,” said Sánchez.
The congresswoman lists part of the negative impact on federal services, including affectations to veterans.
“Latin families, veterans, small entrepreneurs and federal workers throughout the country will immediately feel this chaos: from payment checks retained to the long -term loss of health services while the costs shoot and the hospitals close,” he warned. “We will continue to fight to maintain the open government because Americans are not pawns in a game that Chamber’s Republicans want to use to advance their political agenda.”
Democratic representative Gabe Vázquez (New Mexico), even warned about hospitals.
“This closure will damage millions of Americans, but it will also allow it to permanently close rural hospitals in our district and leave millions without medical insurance,” Vásquez said. “While the Republicans cancel votes and refuse to negotiate, I still have ready to cross partisan lines and approve a financing project that works for our people and protect the medical care of the inhabitants of New Mexico.”
When would the government open?
The government closure will be suspended if Congress approves a financing plan, which must be signed by President Trump.
This Wednesday, the Republicans seek to impuse again the project already endorsed in the House of Representatives.
Republican representative María Elvira Salazar (Florida) blamed the Democrats for the viceroy.
“Do not be fooled: they were presented with a clear and simple solution, but preferred to blackmail the country to get their political demands,” he said. “They prioritized their extreme left agenda above the payment of army payrolls, helping natural disasters and stability of US families.”
