Trump made the announcement on Truth Social and accused Canada of attempt to interfere in an upcoming Supreme Court case over the legality of their “reciprocal” tariffs.
President Trump’s decision is related to un television advertisement featuring a speech by former President Ronald Reagan on duty that the Canadian province of Ontario began broadcasting in the United States.
“They only did this to interfere with the decision of the United States Supreme Court and other courts,” Trump wrote, referring to high court oral arguments, scheduled for Nov. 5, on legal challenges to a significant portion of Trump’s tariffs.
These are the tariffs that include country-specific rates, the central axis of its foreign and economic policy agenda.

Trump imposed tariffs on Canadian steel, aluminum and cars earlier this yearprompting a similar response from Ottawa.
Both parties had been negotiating a possible agreement for the steel and aluminum sectors for weeks.
