Sheinbaum considers “very good” the result of the meeting with Marco Rubio

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaumsaid Thursday that Wednesday’s meeting he held with the United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, was very cordial and stressed that the result of the same “is very good.”

It was a cordial meeting and I think the result is good for the country”, Said the president during her morning press conference, ensuring that she served to strengthen cooperation and coordination on various issues.

The American official met on the eve with Sheinbaum at the National Palace and subsequently offered a joint conference with the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Juan Ramón de la Fuente.

In the meeting, Both governments consolidated the ‘Border Security Cooperation Program and Application of the Law’a bilateral strategy focused on reinforcing coordination on issues such as drug trafficking, organized crime, drug trafficking and irregular migration.

“This program we agreed has to do with collaboration in different areas and coordination, perhaps the best word is coordination,” Sheinbaum emphasized.

The president stressed that one of the forms of cooperation is the exchange of information and intelligence on generators of violence linked to criminal groups, as well as crimes of money laundering and drug trafficking.

In addition, The Head of State clarified that in the program the importance of shared responsibility and differences, as well as mutual trust, was clear.

Sheinbaum said that during the meeting other issues such as the reduction in the migratory phenomenon and advances in security were addressed, although he ruled out that the United States has asked that more US security agents could enter Mexican territory for the fight against drug trafficking groups.

“It was not a subject. They know that we have a protocol to approve agents of the different agencies in our country. We have a constitution that talks about it and a National Security Law. Then, it was not a subject in the talk, added the ruler.

During his Wednesday meeting with the head of American diplomacy, the president acknowledged that one of the issues he addressed with Rubio was the arrest of the drug trafficker Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada.

Yes, we talk about that issue, because the Secretary of Security raised, why had the insecurity in Sinaloa increased in particularwhy crimes increased. (Rubio) heard, he no longer commented on the subject, but he did hear on the subject, ”said Sheinbaum.

In addition, the president said that the collaboration of priority objectives for Mexico was also raised.

“For example, some objective generating violence (…) USA can have money laundering information linked to this person, this criminal group. They will send us the information so that we can act. It can also be the other way around,” Sheinbaum said. EFE
