Democratic health care proposal to extend Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits for three years fails in Senate vote opening the possibility of rising healthcare costs for millions of Americans.
Before voting Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer had urged conservatives to put aside divisiveness and support the proposal.
“This is not a political fight. This is not a symbolic vote. This is a life-or-death vote, because people who will lose their healthcare could face a horrible, horrific end. This is about ensuring that working and middle-class people can afford to go to the doctor without breaking the bank, can afford to treat diseases like cancer, and enjoy the dignity of good health without losing their life savings,” he said.
However, the plan did not resonate with its adversaries and suffered a similar fate to the health plan presented by the Republicans minutes before.
