A one-year-old baby died this Monday after being found unconscious in the bathroom of a house located on 157th Street, near 108th Avenue, in the Jamaica neighborhood, in the borough of Queens, New Yorkpolice sources informed the New York Post.
The discovery occurred around 1:30 in the afternoon, when officers from the New York Police Department went to the home after receiving an emergency alert. Upon arrival, they located the minor without vital signs inside the bathroom.
The boy was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
The mother was hospitalized and faces criminal charges
The minor’s mother, identified as Nicole Boodhai, 28, was found with cut wounds to her wrists inside the home.according to the police. She was also transferred to the same hospital, where she is in stable condition.
Authorities reported that Boodhai was formally charged with murder and endangering the welfare of a child. So far, the exact mechanism that caused the minor’s death has not been publicly specified.
The child was identified as one-year-old Charlie Ramraykha.
Neighbors describe scenes of shock
A worker at a nearby warehouse told local media that he had occasionally seen the boy’s parents in the neighborhood buying basic items such as milk and water. According to his testimony, he believed that the couple lived separately.
The police later confirmed that The mother and the child had different registered addresses.
The witness reported seeing a woman leave the house crying shortly before the authorities arrived and described how the mother was taken from the scene with bandages on her arms.
The case remains under investigation by the New York Police Department. The authorities have not offered additional details about the circumstances surrounding the minor’s death or the family context prior to the event.
The incident has generated consternation in the local community, while investigators continue to clarify what happened.
