Inter Miami stays with Rodrigo De Paul and continues negotiations with Luis Suárez

Inter Miami announced this Thursday that it exercised the purchase option of the Argentine midfielder Rodrigo de Paul, who arrived in the summer on loan from Atlético de Madrid,

For its part, the MLS champion club remains in negotiations with Uruguayan forward Luis Suárez, whose contract expired this season.

De Paul, 31, will remain linked to Inter Miami until the end of the 2029 MLS season. The midfielder landed in Florida shortly before the Club World Cup on loan and was a key piece in winning the MLS Cup last Saturday.

The Argentine had 4 assists in 11 games in the regular phase, while in the final he scored his first goal, key to Miami’s title.

With the retirement of Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, De Paul could occupy one of the two places next season of designated players released by the Spanish.

This financial figure allows MLS teams to exceed the salary cap, since the salary of designated players does not fully count against that limit.

Luis Suárez in doubt about continuing with Inter Miami

Suárez’s future, however, remains up in the air, although the club said in a statement that it is in negotiations with the 38-year-old forward.

The Uruguayan began last season as a fixture at the top of the attack alongside Lionel Messi, but lost prominence during the playoffs, in which he started from the bench in the last three games, including the final.

Suárez finished with 10 goals and 10 assists in the regular phase, while in the playoffs he had just 1 assist in 4 games.

In addition to physical problems, Suárez has missed several games in the last year due to his behavior.

In August he was banned for nine games in August after spitting at a member of the Seattle Sounders coaching staff following Inter Miami’s defeat in the Leagues Cup final, and in November he missed a playoff game for kicking a rival defender in the previous match.
