
Federal immigration agents They shot at a moving vehicle on Wednesday morning during a law enforcement action in Glen Burnie, outside Baltimore, Anne Arundel County authorities reported. The incident occurred around 10:50 am, when officers approached a white van.
According to local police, The driver of the vehicle tried to run over the agents, which prompted the armed response. After the shots were fired, the truck accelerated and stopped in a wooded area near several homes.
Two injured and transferred to hospitals
A person inside the vehicle was shot and taken to a hospital in stable condition. Another person, who was outside the van, suffered minor injuries and was also treated by emergency services. The police stated that none of the injuries put the lives of those involved at risk.
Authorities indicated that ICE agents were the only officials who fired shots and that no one was seriously injured.
Ongoing investigation and official reactions
The Anne Arundel County Police Department opened an investigation into the shooting, while the FBI is investigating the alleged assault against officers. ICE, for its part, is conducting an internal investigation of the operation.
A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said the two civilians involved are in the United States without authorization. According to Undersecretary Tricia McLaughlin, the driver — of Portuguese origin — refused to turn off the vehicle and drove “directly toward the officers,” prompting the officers to shoot “in self-defense.”
Maryland Governor Wes Moore reported that he is aware of the incident and assured that the state will remain in coordination with local authorities to provide support to the community as the investigation progresses.
