The San Ignacio City Council announced the cancellation of the national celebrations of September 15 and 16 due to the lack of security conditions in the region, which in recent weeks has been the scene of violent facts, armed clashes and forced displacements.

Through a statement released in its official accounts, the Municipal Government headed by Mayor Luis Fernando Loaiza Bañuelos reported that neither the ceremony of the Independence cry nor the Civic Parade of September 16 will be held this year.

“After a careful analysis and always thinking about the well -being of our people, the determination has been made to cancel the ceremony of the cry of independence and the civic parade,” said the official message.

Local authorities indicated that, although these celebrations are deeply significant for the community, currently “There are no suitable conditions to carry them out with the joy, tranquility and security that we all deserve”.

The decision occurs in a context of growing violence in San Ignacio. On Wednesday night, an agent of the State Preventive Police was kidnapped by armed civilians in the municipal seat, while he was out of service. According to official reports, those responsible broke into their home and took him by force before fleeing with an unknown direction.

The search operation, in charge of state and federal corporations, extended to rural areas of the municipality, although so far the agent’s location has not been reported.

This fact adds to a registered violent day on the same day in the state of Sinaloa, which included at least eight homicides, three kidnappings and several vehicle robberies.

Displacements and fear in the Sierra

“This decision, although difficult, is taken with the conviction that the most important thing is to take care of each of you. Our commitment is to continue working for a better municipality,” said the local government.

Finally, the City Council called on citizens to keep alive the essence of the national holidays from home, remembering the values ​​of freedom, unity and respect that define Mexican identity.
