Guillermo del Toro will become the first Mexican to receive the highest honor from the British Film Institute



The filmmaker Guillermo del Toro He will make history by becoming the first Mexican to be awarded by the British Film Institute with the prestigious BFI Fellowship.considered the highest distinction of said institution. This as a result of his contribution to world cinema through works such as “Pan’s Labyrinth” and “The Shape of Water.”

According to a statement issued by the prestigious institution, The presentation of this honor will take place during the annual dinner of the president of the BFI in London, next May 2026.

In addition, it was announced that as part of the tribute, The British Film Institute will host a series of screenings and special events, including the British cinema re-release of Guillermo del Toro’s debut film, Cronos (1993).
