The governor of FloridaRon Desantis, set the execution of Norman Mearle Grim Jr., 65 years old for October 28condemned by the murder and sexual aggression of its neighbor Cynthia Campbell in 1998.
The case shocked Pensacola more than two decades. Campbell disappeared and shortly after his body was found by a fisherman near the Bay bridge.
A brutal crime
The Prosecutor’s Office explained that The victim had multiple blows on the face and head compatible with hammeringin addition to 11 stabs in the chest, seven of which crossed the heart.
DNA tests and other physical evidence linked Grim with crime, and in December 2000 he was convicted of first degree murder and sexual aggression.
With the execution of Grim, Florida will have completed 13 death sentences in 2025a recent record since the United States Supreme Court restored the death penalty in 1976.
The State already carried out 12 executions this year, the most recent on September 17, when David Pittman was executed by lethal injection.
In addition, two other dates are scheduled for this fall:
September 30: Victor Tony Jones, convicted of the murder of two people during a robbery in 1990.
October 14: Samuel Lee Smithers, guilty of the murder of two women in 1996.
In total, 33 people have been executed in the United States in 2025exceeding the 25 registered last year. The most recent year with more executions was 2014, with 35 nationwide.
That same September 25, Alabama and Texas also carried out executions.
Grim’s lawyers are expected to present last minute resources before the Supreme Court of Florida and the United States Supreme Court. However, experts consider the process to stop, given the weight of the evidence against them.
