At least seven people died and another 47 were injured in shootings in Chicago during the last weekend, Police reported, at a time when the United States Federal Government has expressed its desire to militarize the city to reduce crime and despite the rejection of local authorities.
Prior to this scenario, the White House caught attention to the violent crimes rate of Chicago, and the press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, compared the city’s murder figures with those of Islamabad in Pakistan and New Delhi.
Without good state authorities denied such comparison, The figures released by the Chicago Police Department reveal that seven people died in the last two days in shootings, to which 47 injured were added.
Such high victims is frequent in Chicago, a city with a high crime rate that the week of August 18 to 24 recorded 43 shootings and the murder of nine people.
Thus, these figures occur when the administration of President Donald Trump has threatened to deploy the National Guard in the city soon.
The possible militarization has received strong criticism from the mayor, Brandon Johnson, and the governor of the state of Illinois, JB Pritzker, Both Democrats, who question that the deployment is part of the Trump plan to arrest undocumented migrants and deport them.
The mayor signed an executive order last week that prevented local officials from collaborating with the Federal Government, in case the deployment became effective.
In addition, during the protests over Labor Day, thousands of people took to the streets of Chicago with banners against Trump’s measure, asking him not to continue with his plans.
However, Trump took advantage of violence figures in Chicago and assured, on his social truth platform, that “the crime is totally out of control.”
Trump’s threats are already a reality in Washington DC, where he recently ordered the deployment of troops to combat insecurityalso despite the rejection of the Democratic mayor.
The deployment in the capital happened to that of thousands of national guard members in Los Angeles (California), city and a state of wide Democratic roots, and within the framework of protests against migratory raids last June.
