“Amaury”, an important drug trafficker of the Gulf Clan required by the US, was captured in Colombia

The National Police of Colombia announced an important blow to the structure of the Gulf Clanafter the capture of one of his “invisible drug traffickers” in Medellin.

It is about Amaury Santacruz Rodríguezalias “Amaury”, considered a high-level member of the Gulf Clan, and who is wanted by the United States justice system for drug trafficking.

According to the authorities, the detainee operated under the shadows, coordinating the shipment of tons of cocaine hydrochloride to various countries, and his arrest represents a structural blow to the finances and logistical capacity of the criminal group.

“Amaury” has an arrest warrant for extradition purposes issued by a Texas state court. The US Government requires it for its alleged responsibility in shipping cocaine to the country.

Seizures of approximately 1.2 tons of cocaine in Panama and 1.3 tons in Costa Rica are attributed to the criminal structure to which he belonged.

Investigations indicate that alias Amaury not only coordinated the logistics of the drug’s departure from the Colombian coast, but also managed contacts with illegal transnational networks.

It is worth mentioning that an “invisible drug trafficker,” as he was considered, is a euphemism used to refer to a key member of drug trafficking who would not be publicly known since he does not have luxuries or power and, on top of that, would have no known judicial record.

These people would usually operate through intermediaries such as logistics coordinators or international liaisons at the service of criminal gangs in order to avoid directly relating to drug trafficking.
