The intentional damage of the anti -immigrant crusade

The case of Salvadoran Kilmar Abrego García encompasses several elements of what is really an intimidation campaign of the Donald Trump government that makes various figures an example of what can happen to others if they dare to face the excesses of this administration.

Ábrego García was deported “by mistake” to the Cecot prison in El Salvador despite the fact that there was a court order that he was not repatriated to his country because his life was in danger. Instead of returning to Maryland, the Trump government said the young man is a gang member and accuses him of smuggling of immigrants. Ábrego García denies the accusations.

Instead of admitting the “error”, Trump’s government brings him back to the United States only to present charges and although he was momentarily released, ICE again stopped in Baltimore on Monday. He was offered to be deported to Costa Rica in exchange for declaring himself guilty of smuggling of people. When refusing, Trump’s government said he will deport him to the African nation of Uganda. Judge Paula Xinis arrested, for now, deportation.

Although Ábrego García declares himself guilty to avoid being sent to Uganda, if something demonstrates this case is the intentional damage of Trump’s migratory policies. First he was deported despite having an amparo of a court to avoid his return to El Salvador. They also accuse him of a gang and smuggler of persons without the due process of law that allows him to defend against accusations.

And here other elements such as Revanchismo as a public policy and the incredible cruelty of deporting it to an insecure country known for human rights violations such as Uganda. A country where there are no guarantees that it will not be tortured or that your life will not be in danger.

Technically, the DHS is supposed to sport once guarantees that these migrants will not be tortured, but in practice, they have been deported without that certainty.

Deportation to third countries with which immigrants do not have any type of ties is one of the weapons of the Trump government to remove migrants whose countries do not accept them, such as Venezuela, which only admits them from time to time.

It is also a weapon of deterrence for many immigrants to self -support, as has happened, for fear of being arrested and sent, not back to their countries, but to brutal prisons in third countries.

One of the many problems is that ICE notifies immigrants only hours before they will be deported to these third countries hindering further the due process of law and the possibility that their cases are presented before a judge of appeals. The Nation’s Supreme Court itself allowed deportations to third countries to continue while its future is elucidated in Courts of Appeals.

Nationally and internationally, Pro Immigrant and Pro Human Rights denounce deportations to third countries for violating international protections that exist for those who seek asylum.

And the case of Ábrego García also puts on the mat the emotional damage at the family level. His family is mixed immigration situation like so many others through the country. His wife and children are American citizens.

It is estimated that some 5.5 million American children live in homes where at least one of the parents is undocumented and of those, 1.8 million live in homes with two undocumented parents.

The spectrum of the arrest and eventual deportation of one or both parents is devastating For those children and their families.

A study From the University of California Medicine in Riverside, he found that “children from families with mixed status often live with chronic anticipatory anxiety due to the possibility that a love healthy”.

In the Trump anti -immigrant crusade, the damage is not collateral. It is totally intentional.
