The president of the USA, Donald Trump, said that the details “have not yet been” discussed “on the security guarantees that Washington and European countries would provide to Ukraine to avoid new Russian invasions and insisted that he believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to sign peace with kyiv.
“We do not know what security guarantees (they would be implemented), because we have not even discussed the details, and we will see. First, Europe will give them significant security guarantees, and they should, because they are right there (together with Ukraine), but we will participate as reinforcement. We are going to help them, ”Trump told journalists in the Oval Office.
Trump thus responded to a journalist who asked about the details of the plan he has suggested and that goes through a possible American air support and a European contingent on Ukrainian territory after kyiv and Moscow signed peace.
Moscow has said that it will not accept a similar mechanism, and this can be one of the reasons why Russia could be delaying a summit between Putin and its Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelenski, which Trump is trying to boost.
Putin seems not wanting to celebrate summit
When asked about the reasons why Putin seems to be showing signs of not wanting to celebrate said summit, Trump replied that the Russian president does not want to see Zelenski “because he doesn’t like him.”
“The fact that he went to Alaska, our country, I think, was a great sign that he wants to achieve it,” Trump added in reference to the summit he held with Putin on August 15.
“It was not easy for him to go to Alaska, do you know?, Coming here. But the fact that he presented himself to such a successful date was a very successful day for other issues,” said the Republican.
The ruler added that Washington and Moscow are also having conversations about non -proliferation and control of missile and nuclear weapons and the new Start treaty, the only one that remains in force between the two countries, which expires in February 2026.
