Fox News, launched by Robert Murdoch in 1996, is an unique position in the American media scene, especially for those who belong to the ideological right. While Democrats in the United States resort to various news sources and trust in them, none of them approaches the attractiveness of the Fox News channel for the Republicans.
In addition, there are more than 10 previous personalities on Fox News, who are holding high positions in President Donald Trump’s administration. Below are 6 facts about the Fox News channel and those who follow its news, based on the recent opinion polls conducted by the Pew Research Center.
1/ According to a survey conducted in March 2025, about four of every 10 Americans (38%) says they are following the news of the Fox News channel regularly, and this is similar to the percentage of those who follow the news of the ABC channel (36%) and the NBC channel (35%) regularly.
While 37% of adults in the United States say they trust Fox News as a source of news, 42% say they do not trust them. This level of lack of confidence is the highest among 30 news sources.
2/ Republicans on Fox News trust more than any other news source, while Democrats do not trust them more than any other source. Among the Republicans and the independents of the Republicans, 56% say they trust the Fox News channel as a source of news, while 21% do not trust it.
The majority of Republicans (57%) also say they are following the news of the Fox News channel regularly. This is also much higher than the percentage of those who follow news from any other source.
Among the Democrats and their sympathizers, 64% say they do not trust the Fox News channel as a source of news, that is, more than 3 times the percentage of those who trust it (19%). This level of lack of confidence is much higher than it in other news sources, including Joe Rogan (40%), Berettar (26%), New York Post (25%), and New Zemax (23%). Although most Democrats do not trust the Fox News channel, about one in five (18%) say they are following the news there regularly, a similar percentage of the percentage of those who follow the news from the Washington Post.
3/ At the ideological level, the average consumers of the Fox News channel is located to the right of the average adults in the United States, but not to the far right like the average consumers of some other sources.

4/ The elderly in the United States is more than young people to use and trust Fox News. While 47% of Americans aged 65 years or more and 45% of ages 50 and 64 say they are following the news of Fox News regularly, 32% of the ages of 30 and 49 years and 28% of adults under the age of 30 do the same. This is in line with a broader style that the elderly are more likely to get news from TV.
The most older Republicans are the most likely to say that they trust in Fox News: 76% of Republicans aged 65 or more say this, compared to 41% under the age of 30. The number of Democrats who say the same does not exceed one in five in any age group.
5/ Shortly before the elections of 2024, half of the Americans said that the Fox News channel was a major source (22%) or secondary (28%) for political and electoral news for them. This is almost identical to the proportion of those who said this in almost the same period in 2020.
In 2024, Republicans were more than the weakness of the Democrats in saying that the Fox News channel was at least a secondary source of election news for them (69% compared to 32%).
6/ In 2024, the Fox News channel was the most popular media that the Americans mentioned as their main source of political news in an open question. Once again, the elderly were much more than young people to name Fox News as their main source of political news. He said about two out of 10 adults at the age of 65 or more (22%), compared to 5% of adults under the age of 30.
