Sheinbaum confirms that Mexico presented 30 complaints to the UN for violating the human rights of migrants in the US.

Mexico confirmed this Tuesday that 30 complaints have been filed with the United Nations (UN) for violation of human rights of undocumented Mexicans in the United States.

There are 30 complaints for alleged human rights violations that have been presented“said the president Claudia Sheinbaum during his morning conference without offering more details on the matter.

The Mexican leader explained that her Government provides legal support through the Foreign Ministry and its consular network, and rejected any treatment that criminalizes migrants.

“As I have said, with the consulates we support and financially support the hiring of lawyers so that the victims can file their complaint and bring trials in the United States,” he indicated.

Sheinbaum stressed that Mexico does not question the US legal framework when there are crimes, but it does question the stigma against migrants.

We do not agree with the treatment of Mexicans as criminals. If someone committed a crime, they have to prosecute in the United States“, held.

Sheinbaum insisted on the economic and demographic weight of the Mexican diaspora, estimated at 40 million people, the majority with regular status or with years of residence in the country.

“It strengthens the economy of the United States. It is estimated that there are 40 million Mexican men and women in the United States, of which 90% have (legal) papers or more from the last census that was taken. And the others have been in the United States for more than 5 or 6 years,” he explained.

Likewise, the president pointed out that irregular crossings of Mexicans have decreased.

There are now very few Mexican men and women who cross the border or who crossed during the six-year term of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024). They have much more time,” he said and recalled the contribution of the migrant community to the economy.

“It supports in the field, it supports construction, it supports services and in addition to the fact that we do not agree with discrimination and treatment that violates human rights, that allegedly violates human rights, they have to be recognized for their work.”

Likewise, he reiterated that Mexico will protect its compatriots without intervening in US internal politics.

We will always seek dialogue, coordination and when we do not agree we will also say so. But always seeking a responsible dialogue, let’s say it like that.”

Sheinbaum’s statements come amid an increase in immigration operations in several states of the United States, particularly in border areas and workplaces.

On October 24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) of Mexico reported that ten Mexicans have died during immigration operations or in the custody of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE), during the second term of US President Donald Trump. EFE
