Political Round: What will be the political cost of Katie Porter’s tantrum

Despite the torrent of criticism that came upon her after the disastrous way she handled a television interview, former congresswoman Katie Porter appears to have no intention of dropping out of the race for California governor in 2026.

Porter betrayed his intolerant nature by throwing a tantrum during an interview.

The CBS television reporter asked him what he would say to the almost 6.1 million Californians who voted for President Trump in 2024 to give him their support, Porter replied that he needed them. When the reporter wanted to delve deeper into the topic and asked him follow-up questions, Porter lost his temper and lost his temper, threatening to leave the interview.

The video showing an irascible Katie Porter went viral; and it was worse when another video from 2021 was published the next day in which she is seen angrily scolding someone on her team when he corrected her about information.

“Get off my F*** show,” he shouted at his employee.

As expected, his Democratic rivals condemned his unprofessional reactions, including former Comptroller Betty Yee calling for his resignation, immediately unleashing a cascade of online ridicule against Porter.

The damage control team of the candidate to govern California ran out to try to repair Porter’s image, for which he asked his allies for help.

Christine Pelosi, daughter of former House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi, said that everyone has a bad day, and we’ve all done something that we don’t want published and caught on camera.

Although we understand that anyone has the right to be irritated, a more professional standard is expected in someone who aspires to govern the fifth largest economy in the world especially because he will face very heavy challenges to which he cannot respond with a tantrum.

So there is no doubt that the short fuse will take its toll on Katie Porter.

Let’s not lose sight of it

Former Senator Alex Padilla announced that he will make the decision whether or not to compete for the state’s coldest office after the November 4 election when the future of Proposition 50, which will redraw California’s electoral districts, is decided. Let’s hope that during the first two weeks of November he gives us the news that he will run for governor so we can go in peace and eat the turkey.

It must be said that he can campaign as a senator, and only if he wins would he give up his precious seat in the Senate.

Who least expected

Mayor Karen Bass has faced competition for her re-election campaign, and from someone she least expected. Former Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Superintendent Austin Beutner jumped up and said ‘open the floor, here I come.’ Nobody saw it coming.

Beutner said he was encouraged by Bass’s failure as a leader during the Palisades fire that killed 12 and leveled thousands of homes, including his mother-in-law’s, while his own was heavily damaged.

Bass must not have been at all happy about Beutner’s entry into the mayoral race, because in truth the Democrat has a fairly good reputation.

The coin is up in the air because everyone knows that the mayor is not going through her best moment of popularity.

Debates at the door

There are already two debates masquerading as forums for Los Angeles Council District 1. The first is scheduled for October 28 in Pico Unión; and another for November 13 in Lincoln Park.

Raúl Claros, Lou Calancha, Sylvia Robledo, Elaine Alaniz, Jesús Jesse Rosas and even the actor Nelson Grande are challenging the position of current councilor Eunisses Hernández, who has not confirmed her attendance at either forum.

Could it be that he fears that they will make a pile of him?
