
A small plane crashed this Sunday near Hicks Airfield, in Fort Worth, Texascausing the death of at least two people and causing a fire that reached several parked trucks. Federal authorities are investigating the causes of the accident.
The accident occurred around 1:30 pm on Sunday in the 12000 block of N. Saginaw Boulevard, near Hicks Airfield, a private facility located north of Fort Worth, in Tarrant County.
As reported by FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth, Several semi-trailer trucks caught fire after the impact of the aircraft, which ended up engulfed in flames. Two people were found dead at the scene, the Fort Worth Fire Department confirmed.
Local and federal authorities investigate
“I can confirm that this is a small aircraft that crashed into some unknown structures,” a spokesperson for the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office told Fox News Digital.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were notified and took over the investigation of the accident.
“Since this is an airplane, the FAA will lead the investigation,” the spokesperson added. “We are supporting the scene with traffic control at this time.”
The north and south lanes of Business 287 were temporarily closed due to the emergency.
The Fort Worth Fire Department participated in the response efforts, along with units from Saginaw and Haslet, as well as the Fort Worth Police Department.
Until now, It has not been confirmed how many people were on board the plane.and authorities have not yet revealed the identities of the victims.
Hicks Airfield, where the accident occurred, is a private airfield operated by its own members, according to information published on its website.
