After a temporary pause, the Disney studio gave the go-ahead for the live-action adaptation of its successful animated film ‘Tangled’ (2010) returns to the big screen. According to reports from Deadline, the project is being revived after production was briefly halted last April.
The most notable news of this reactivation is the possible incorporation of Scarlett Johansson to the cast. The acclaimed actress, with a career full of box office successes and Oscar nominations, is in negotiations to play the villainous Mother Gothel.
The character of Mother Gothel
Mother Gothel is the central antagonist of the story. Their evil is born of vanity and an excessive desire for eternal youth. After discovering a magical flower with rejuvenating properties, Gothel kidnaps baby Rapunzel, whose hair absorbed the flower’s power.
The villainess keeps the young girl prisoner in a high tower, manipulating her psychologically and posing as her protective mother. One of the character’s most memorable moments is his theme song “Mother Knows Best.”
Who are confirmed?
While the possible signing of Johansson for the role of Gothel attracts attention, the two main roles remain unknown. There are still no names or solid rumors about which actresses and actors will play the optimistic Princess Rapunzel. and the charismatic bandit Flynn Rider.
As for the creative team, the only name confirmed so far is that of director Michael Gracey, known for his work on the musical The Greatest Showman.
Being in the early stages of development and casting, Disney has not confirmed an official release date. However, given the recent reactivation of the project, Projections indicate that the film could hit theaters by the end of 2026 or, more likely, in the course of 2027.
With this move, Disney continues to expand its catalog of live-actions, betting on one of its most modern princesses.
